Paul's definition of the Gospel is in 1 Cor. 15 and is the death, burial, resurrection of Jesus. Jesus taught the gospel which was the new way that would be made possible by the work of Christ to come. The cross has always been the key whether believing forward or backward. Jesus and His salvation is the key which leads to a new way of life. That new way of life certainly includes real love that is demonstrated in real ways. Good post. The message of Jesus was replaced with a message about Jesus that, beginning with the 4th century (if not before), changed the character of Christianity. This is when Christianity became the official religion of the Roman empire and first became a tool is the hands of political rulers. This led to horrible crimes being committed in the name of Christianity: the wars, pogroms, and inquisitions that are blood stains on the pages of history. But these have nothing to do with Jesus' original message, and were in fact done in direct defiance of his teaching. Only when Christianity returns to the original teachings of "the Way" of Jesus will it be what God originally intended it to be. You’re right.
