The God Who Sits in the Dark

Back in the spring, I was introduced to Craig by a mutual friend. He emailed me and asked if we could shoot some footage for his new project called Recycle Your Faith, where he interviewed people who were living out their faith. He then cut the interviews into clips, for use in small groups and such to get conversation started. Here is one of the resulting clips from our time together.

I have told this story several times, but this was the watershed moment for me, when I discovered the value of a “Ministry of Presence”, and I learned what Love Wins could really do for people. And, what it meant to say “Love Wins”.

I have heard this quote so many times and I still just love it every time I hear it!

Powerful video…wish you were closer so I could come sit in the dark with you Lena. Guess I just need to sit in the dark with folks here in Richmond but it sure would be neat if the whole body learned to sit in the dark together.

  3. So beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

Sitting in the dark offers us the opportunity for sweet fellowship with one another. It builds faith, makes roots grow deep and be strong. It prepares us for heaven. Thank you for sharing and being there.

I love this, Hugh. While I don’t think anything’s going to convert me back to believing in God, this is one of the only things that’s tempted me. Though, some believe “God” is really the spirit of humanity and love for one another. In that sense, I absolutely do believe. And I believe in you, and what you’re doing and the overall message that you teach. Much love to you and to your beautiful congregation.

Hugh….would be great if you and I could meet for some tea and conversation sometime. I “do” a very similar ministry here in Greenville, SC. Often, my “sitting in the dark” is with people who have homes and wealth….but have been deluded by the religious and have become jaded….or with religious folks who are just beginning to see that their “religion” is actually standing in the way of their freedom. Either way, we have a similar passion….blessings to you, my friend. My sister is one of your donors and is encouraged by what God is doing through you.
